Job Location: Torrance, CA 

Salary Range: $110,000-$145,000/yr

 Responsibilities 

Our client is seeking a Senior Material Estimator at their Torrance, CA location.  In this position, you will be responsible for estimating/forecasting material costs for incoming RFQ’s by gathering details and compiling data to estimate all material costs according to specifications, working closely with but not limited to the Production, Engineering, Purchasing and Quality Teams. Consider raw materials, equipment, and tooling as well as determining necessary resources for projects based on requirements and budgetary constraints. Based on costing information gathered, the Material Estimator will build and submit Consolidated Bill of Material (CBOM) and BOEs to the Pricing Department: 

  • Ability to prepare cost estimates in a timely manner, sometimes expedited when needed in this fast-paced working environment.  
  • Evaluate supplier history and supplier trends.  
  • Accurately interpret and apply rules and regulations e.g., Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR)/Defense Federal Acquisition Requirements Supplement (DFARS), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), Truth in Negotiations Act (TINA).  
  • Review Bill of Materials (BOM), assembly drawings, engineering change notices (ECN) and technical files.  
  • Prepare certified cost and pricing data packages to support Consolidated Bill of Materials (CBOM) and Basis of Estimates (BOEs) per FAR Table 15-2.  
  • Collaborate within supply chain organization, across capture/program and technical leadership, and with suppliers to drive innovative supply chain and technical solutions that meet program requirements.  
  • Supporting risk and opportunity assessment, quantification, and analysis during the proposal process.  
  • Present proposal recommendations to management.  
  • Represent Supply Chain during customer negotiations, Fact-Finding (RFIs), DCAA and DCMA Audits and TINA Sweeps.   
  • Assists in the identification and implementation of improvements to processes by analyzing current processes to maximize the efficiency of equipment and personnel to support company improvement initiatives.  
  • Provide training and mentoring to junior estimators to grow and develop the department.  

Qualifications 

  • A bachelor’s degree (BA) in Accounting, Business, or related field, and 6 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience which has provided both theoretical and practical knowledge in the field and demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through 8 or more years of related experience. Or an advanced degree in a relevant field and 4 years of relevant experience.  
  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Excel, proficient in other MS Offices software (PowerPoint & Word). 
  • Experience with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 15-2, Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS), Truthful Cost or Pricing Data (formerly TINA), and/or other Government Procurement regulations as they pertain to Bid/Cost proposals. 
  • Able to work both independently (self-guided) and as an integral team member in a highly dynamic work environment. 
  • Must be able to work well in a team environment and with individuals from a variety of areas within the company (such as program managers, engineers from multiple disciplines, business development staff, senior management, and manufacturing and proposal personnel). 
  • Ability to develop strong working/professional relationships. 
  • Ability to adapt to changing requirements and schedules. 
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills are needed, with experience presenting to internal customers a plus.
